(:nl:)!! Martin Duckworth - 2017 '''DA:''' "It is with great personal sadness that I have to announce to death of our friend Martin, who passed away early this morning ''[24th February 2017]'' after a long fight with cancer.

As some of you may know, Martin has recently been fighting the effects of his cancer and has been unable to attend the group for some time. His presence at our meetings was, and will be, missed.

Martin has been a long standing and valued member of the LUG and a personal friend to some of us in the group - I am sure all of us who got to know him will note his loss with true sadness.

Martin was one of my closest friends and will never be forgotten.

RIP Martin."

'''HS:''' "Sad news indeed.

As you know I only got to know Martin over the past year or so but in that time I got to know what a friendly knowledgeable man he was. It is easy to feel sad about his passing but I prefer to focus on the fact I was privileged to have met and passed time with him."

'''KW:''' "...he was a well respected member and a delight to have at the meetings, he will be sadly missed."

'''ME:''' "He will be missed not just at the meetings. Please express our condolences to his family and friends."

'''KH:''' "Martin was always friendly and helpful, and a positive input at the meetings when I used to attend them.

He helped me a few times when I moved and needed some electrical things sorting out.

He'll be sadly missed. My condolences to his family."

Barry Gidden - 2015

On 24th February 2015 the group was saddened to learn of the loss of a long standing member Barry Gidden who died on Thursday 19th February 2015. He will be sadly missed. Here are some quotes from fellow members and friends:

'''GR:''' "He gave a talk to the LUG a few years back on regular expressions. Barry died last Thursday ''[19/Feb/2015]'' from cancer. He'd been ill since the New Year ''[2015]''.

I knew him on and off ever since he joined GEC Telecommunications about the same time as I did in the late 1970's. He worked on the development of things like the operating system for the System X telephone exchanges.

After Marconi folded he took a MSc at Coventry University to catch up with recent developments and then got a job in some tech start up near the M25, although he worked the majority of the time from home."

'''AS:''' "Very sad. He lived just round the corner from me. Quietly spoken but always worth listening to, he will be missed by all those in CovLUG who knew him."

'''D:''' "So shocked to hear this. Barry was one of the nicest intelligent people I have known. Rip Barry."

'''ME:''' "That's very sad news indeed - great bloke."

'''KW:''' "What a great loss, he was far too young to have his life cut so short. I am glad to have known you Barry in the time that you were here."

Rest in peace, John. We have lost a mentor, leader and friend. ___(:nl:)
